DMA Delays Siri AI on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 in EU — Available on macOS and visionOS

Apple announced that Siri AI, powered by Apple Intelligence, will be delayed on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 in the European Union due to the Digital Markets Act (DMA). EU users will still get Siri AI on macOS 27 and visionOS 27, but not on iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch (which requires a paired iPhone with Siri AI).
Why the Delay?
Apple proposed a solution called Trusted System Agent — an intermediary that would allow virtual assistants to safely access the same features as Siri AI. They also offered a phased rollout over 18 months. The European Commission rejected all proposals. Apple argues that the DMA would require giving any AI system nearly unlimited access to user data and the ability to control apps without user visibility, which they deem unsafe.
What's Missing on iOS/iPadOS 27 in EU?
- No Siri AI dedicated app to revisit conversations
- No expanded Visual Intelligence
- No integrated writing tools
- No Siri mode in Camera
- No other Siri AI capabilities announced at WWDC26
- Developers in EU cannot test Siri AI on iOS/iPadOS/watchOS 27
Where It Works
- macOS 27: Siri AI available
- visionOS 27: Siri AI available
